Basic Firemanship Day Schedule Location Newton Fire/EMS Training Ground 800 SW 14th Newton, KS

Basic Firemanship Day is designed to allow fire departments to send individuals or groups of personnel to practice their basic hands on skills in live fire and simulated evolutions. The intent of this training is for those participating to practice their skills with little intervention from instructors. Participants will get out of this training what they put into it.
Kansas Fire Service Training Institute at Kansas University has joined with us this year in bringing this very important training to you free of charge. They will be providing the Interior burn Trailer and SCBA Confidence Course. Lunch will be provided by Harvey County ESA .

Classes
In this class the students will participate as members of a team in several interior fire fighting evolutions. They will practice attacking kitchen fires, bedroom fires, basement fires and multiple fires. Students will be coached on proper use of hose and nozzles as well as basic Strategy and Tactics.
In this class the student will be given basic instruction on use of SCBA. During this class, the student will get an opportunity to do several search patterns as a member of a team. This class is for any firefighter who will be making entry into structures using SCBA.
In this class the student will be given hands-on training in the skill of Wildland Firefighting. The class will be presented by Kansas Forestry Department.
In this class the student will have the opportunity to do the following basic pump operations: Basic pump theory /operations/troubleshooting, Pumping from the booster tank, Pumping from tank and switching to hydrant , Pumping from tank and switching to a dump tank, and Relay pumping Operation.
In this class the student will practice attacking Liquid tank fires, LP Christmas tree fires , Car fires and the LP Tank fires. Operating as a member of a team, students will be given the opportunity to practice hose and nozzle evolutions under the supervision of experienced firefighters.
Ventilation, Forcible Entry and Hose Evolutions (2 Hour Session Each)
In these three different class sessions, the firefighter will be given the opportunity to hone their basic skills of firefighting. They will be given the opportunity to practice using the tools needed for ventilation, forcible entry and advancing hose, both hand and power tools will be used. There will instruction on proper tactics and safety for each of the different evolutions.
Note:
An individual can take as many of the sessions as possible. For example, a person could take two different two hour session in the morning and one four hour session in the afternoon, or he/she could take 4 two hour sessions to fill up the day. This is subject to class size limitations and scheduling conflicts. Sign up early to get the best chance to get what you want.
